  • The first store opened on 2 April 1979 in Aarhus, Denmark, where it still operates. At that time the company was called JYSK Sengetøjslager, but the name was changed to JYSK in 2001.

  • Today JYSK has approx. 1.450 stores in the following 32 countries: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Iceland, Canada, Greenland, the Faeroe Islands, Georgia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Spain, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Romania, France, Dubai, Albania, the United Kingdom, Slovenia and now also Macedonia.

  • The next countries in the pipeline are Russia, Croatia and China.

  • In Germany and Austria the stores are called Dänisches Bettenlager which is an independent company within the JYSK group. With time, these stores will also change their name to JYSK.

  • The JYSK group is owned personally by businessman Lars Larsen. Group turnover is approximately EUR 1.9 billion and growth is stable and controlled.

  • The total number of employees is over 14.000.

  • JYSK's ambition is to be the market leader in everything for the bedroom, bathroom, window, living room and patio.

  • JYSK's value set is based on three words:
    - Businessman: Service-mindedness, cost awareness, credibility, targeted and professional.
    - Colleague: Helpful, mutual respect, flexible, open, honest, straightforward and positive.
    - Team spirit: Committed, loyal, cooperative, JYSK ambassador, rights and obligations.

  • At JYSK our customers can buy several products that are marked with ethical, social and/or environmental marks such as ’Blomsten’ (the Flower), ’Svanen’ (the Swan), ’FSC’, ’Max Havelaar’, ’Green Cotton’ and ’Øko-Tex’. JYSK is one of the world's largest dealers in FSC-certified garden furniture.

  • JYSK is co-founder of ’The Tropical Forest Trust’ which works to secure the tropical rain forests and stop climate change. The trust currently has more than 50 members worldwide.

  • JYSK is head sponsor of the official organisations for athletes with disabilities in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. JYSK Franchise supports the same cause in Canada, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Iceland and the Faroe Islands.
