»I thought the retail industry would be boring«

At just 21, Jimmi Hansen went from his coddled childhood to a job as a shop manager at JYSK.

Even though Jimmi from Skive, Denmark, is only 22 years old today, he has been a JYSK shop manager for a year and a half. It is actually a bit curious that he found a place in the manager's chair as early as he did, because as a child he never did get much work done.

»I always thought it was all about age and experience if you wanted anything in life, but that's not necessarily the way it works. It's about showing what you can do and having that urge to offer an extra hand whenever needed. I've always wanted to work in a shop, but more in the clothing or shoe business. I thought the rest of the retail industry would be boring, but it turns out it's not!

At JYSK I have been given responsibility from day one, and that has been very important for me", says Jimmi, who has been at JYSK for three and a half years and was offered a job as shop manager only one month after he completed JYSK's own trainee course«.

More mature

Jimmi's early success at JYSK has had a positive impact on him, and he believes that he has managed so well because he shows initiative and has plenty of ambition.

»I don't give up and I'm very interested in figures and that's why I really don't like it when I don't meet my set targets. I have become more mature and structured, but I'm also growing up because most of my colleagues are older than me. I feel right at home here, and there are plenty of people around me from whom I can learn a lot«, he says.
